An open letter from Joanne Fontaine, creator of Alzheimer’s Survival Kits®
“I created Alzheimer’s Survival Kits® based on the knowledge that meaningful activities greatly impact the quality of life for people with Alzheimer’s disease. Activities provide all of us with a sense of purpose and well-being. The activities you and I enjoy every day and the roles we each play in our own lives help us to define who we are, what we value and promote our self-esteem. The basic needs we have to feel we belong and have a sense of purpose do not change because of Alzheimer’s disease. People with memory and cognitive impairment still need to experience the things that define them as a person. However, Alzheimer’s disease makes it difficult for the person to be involved in activities or assume roles that they once may have loved at a level they may have once functioned. Alzheimer’s Survival Kits® are designed to help the person with alzheimer’s disease “connect” to those things and help to promote joy, purpose and they provide opportunity to experience life.”
Sincerely,
Joanne Fontaine
